Charles Portis
Charles McColl Portis (born 28 December 1933 in El Dorado) is an American writer, author of westerns. True Grit. Curriculum vitae
He served in marines during the Korean War. In 1958 he graduated in journalism from the University of Arkansas. He worked as a journalist in the "Arkansas Gazette" and later in the "New York Herald Tribune" (as a director of the London branch of the newspaper). In the mid-1960s he was professionally involved in writing. The first novel, entitled Norwood, was released in 1966. This item, also published two years later, True Grit, brought him recognition and popularity. Both books were then filmed. In the 1970s Norwood made a film with Glen Campbell. In 1969, Henry Hathaway's The Real Thing was played, starring John Wayne, while Joel and Ethan Coen filmed the same title in 2010. novels
