Wladyslaw Wołowska Mussi


Wladyslaw Wołowska Mussi (born August 11, 1910 in Curitiba, died July 14, 2012 in Florianópolis) is a Brazilian gynecologist-obstetrician.

She came from a family of Polish immigrants and spoke fluent Polish. In 1932 she completed her medical studies at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), the first woman to study medicine in Brazil. After college, she married Antônio Dib Mussi, a resident of Laguna and then in Orleans. Since 1940 she lived in Florianópolis, where she was known as a high-tech gynecologist. She worked at the Santa Catarina Medical Academy and for nine years was the director of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, where she performed many pioneering medical procedures. She has specialized in cancer prevention and has worked with feminist organizations to promote regular gynecological research and the development of conscious motherhood. She died at the age of 101 due to complications following a hip fracture surgery. Wladyslaw Wołowska Mussi had three children, daughter Zuleik Wolowska Mussi Lenzi and elder son Carlos Wolowski Mussi are university professors, and younger son Mario Wolowski Mussi is an outstanding cardiologist.
