Tarbela prison


Tarbela prison Tarbela Dam - A dam and a hydroelectric power plant on the Indus River in northern Pakistan. It is located in the Haripur District, about 50 kilometers south-west of Islamabad. It is the second largest dam in the world (after the Three Gorges Dam) and the largest water dam of Pakistan (before Mangla Dam).

The construction of the dam was completed in 1974 to collect drinking water, flood control, irrigation and energy production. The dam serves as the primary drinking water reservoir and power base of Islamabad. The total length of the facility is 2743 meters and its maximum height is 143 meters. The maximum capacity of the Tarbel hydroelectric plant is currently 4888 MW.

The uprising of the dam led to the flooding of several hundred villages and displacement of 96,000 people.
