Ferenc Kontra (born 18 June 1958 in Dražu) is a Hungarian writer and journalist.

He was born in Dražu, Yugoslavia (now Croatia), where he spent his childhood there. In 1977 he graduated from high school (Lajos-Nagy-Gymnasium) in Pécs. He studied Hungarian and English philology at the University of Szeged after his studies, and in 1983 he returned to Croatia, to Osijek, where he worked in the weekly Magyar Képes Ujság. In 1987 he moved to Novi Sad (now Serbia), where he collaborated with the magazine Új Symposion. Since 1991 he has worked for Magyar Szó, a Hungarian-language daily for the Hungarian minority in Vojvodina, initially as an author of articles, later as an editor of the cultural section.
