Visvaldas Matijošaitis
Visvaldas Matijošaitis (born April 14, 1957 in Kaunas) is a Lithuanian entrepreneur and self-governing activist, Mayor of Kaunas since 2015. Curriculum vitae
He graduated in 1975 from the secondary school in Szańce, and in 1980 studied mechanical engineering at the Vilnius Institute of Civil Engineering. Involved in running a private business. Founder and main shareholder of the Vičiūnų grupė company, in 2015, with shares in more than 45 companies in more than a dozen countries. Placed in the ranking of the richest Lithuanians.
In 2011 he headed the local electoral coalition, obtaining the mandate of the town councilor in Kaunas. In 2015 he again became a councilor, and in the second round of the mayoral election he defeated Andrius Kupčinskas, the candidate for re-election.
He was married to Irena Matijošaitienė (1957-2013), has two sons. In 2006 he was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit for Lithuania.
