A security thread, also known as a security strip, is a security feature that is introduced during paper production. It can be completely placed in the paper structure or appear on its surface in well defined areas (so called window thread). The thread is often metallised, although it is also colored, covered with microprint, sometimes glows in UV rays, contains magnetic domains, etc. Protectors are used as security for banknotes since the 1970s. Polish banknotes or US dollars issued since 1990. Dropped in a window or as a fastener is used, for example, in Swiss banknotes or in UK banknotes. The thread is one of the most popular banknote security.
