Ginetta Sagan

Ginetta Sagan was born on June 1, 1925 in Milan, Italy. Her father was a Catholic and a Jewish mother. During World War II, in 1945 she was arrested by the Black Brigades. In prison, she was beaten, raped and tortured. It was released by German guards. In 1951 she emigrated to the United States, where she married medical student Leonard A. Sagan. She worked with Amnesty International. She was awarded the Order of Merit by the Italian Republic. In 1994, the Ginetty Sagan Award was established. In 1996, President Bill Clinton gave the Sagan Medal of Freedom. Her husband died in 1997, she died on September 1, 2000. Bibliography
