Before Premužić

Ante Premužić (Kobas, Slavonski Brod, January 11, 1889 - Zagreb, November 30, 1979) - Forestry engineer, teacher, ministerial minister. Curriculum vitae

After completing the Royal High School in Požega, he finished his studies at the Forestry Academy in Zagreb. Served in numerous locations in Croatia, dealing with construction related tasks. He twice worked as the head of the Construction Department at the Ministry of Forests and Mining in Belgrade. He was the initiator, designer and builder of numerous forest and mountain routes in Velebit, but also in the Plitvice Lakes, Rab, Mljeta and Krk. He wrote about the role of forestry and mountains in the development of tourism and considered the problems of forest and rural management in the Karst, promoting the improvement of the life of the peasants in Croatian Karst. He was a true nature lover, protecting and researching Welebit.

It is best known for its design and construction of a tourist route through the northern and central Welebit, which was named after him by the Premžička Trail, which was financed by his great friend, mountain tourist, passionate fan of Vladislav Ivan Krajač. This trail was built between 1930 and 1933, when Ante Premužić was a construction manager at Sušak Forest Management and after completion of construction he was also the director of the Directorate (between the two world wars when Rijeka was part of Italy).

Krajač and Premuží, as great lovers of Velebit, studied these Croatian mountains for years. Sam Krajač is a pioneer in the study of the welebic caves, which has earned Croatian speleology. He was helped by Premužić, with whom he examined the Varnjača cave in the Rožnovský kukovy. In addition to the Premužić Trail, their jointly executed projects include the Rossi Shelter, the printed guide to the Velebit and the shelter at the Zavala.
