Marc Galle


Marc Galle (born September 11, 1930 in Denderleeuw, died April 13, 2007 in Ghent) - Belgian and Flemish politician, linguist, university teacher and local government official, minister in the federal and regional government, national parliamentarian, deputy to the European Parliament III term. A graduate of German studies at the University of Ghent. He then obtained a doctorate in philosophy and linguistics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He worked as an academic lecturer, he also ran language programs from the Taalwenken cycle in VRT. In his research he dealt with exploring the work of Louis Couperus.

He was active in the Belgian Socialist Party, and after its division in the Flemish Socialist Party. He sat on the executive committee of this group. He was a city councilman in Aalst, member of the House of Representatives (1977-1989) and member of the Flemish Council (1977-1989). In the years 1979-1981 he was part of several federal cabinets as Minister for the Flemish Region. From 1981 to 1985 he was a member of the regional government of Gaston Geens. In the years 1989-1994, he held the mandate of the third term MEP, belonging to the socialist faction and chairing the Committee on Regulations, Verification of Mandates and Immunities.
