Jan Jarzyna

Jan Jarzyna (born 1892 in Lviv, after 1960) - Polish skier and climber, competitor of Czarni Lwów club. curriculum vitae

He was a student at the Lviv Polytechnic. From the earliest years he practiced sports - football and skiing (cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and jumping). He also climbed Tatra Mountains - in 1909, with Józef Bizon, he crossed the eastern wall of Wysoka (2004 m) and a year later, with Bison and Stanisław Szulakiewicz, he entered the Starowina Valley to the Sławkowski Peak (2452 m). The second expedition ended tragically: during the climb to the northern rim of the Little Jawor Peak (2380 m), Szulakiewicz died and during the rescue operation the legendary Tatra lifeguard Klimek Bachled died.

Jan Jarzyna's sports career was spent years before World War I. In 1910 Zakopane won junior and junior competitions and slalom competitions, and in the jumping competition he finished 6th. In February 1911, in Bad Mitterndorf, Austria took second place in the race at a distance of 7 kilometers. In 1913, as the first Pole, he won the ski jumping competition, which took place (most likely) in Reichenau an der Rax. He was also a record holder for Galicia in length. This result was achieved on February 2, 1914, at the ski jump at Kalatow, giving a jump of 15 meters. He won jumping competitions in Woroch and Sławsk. In recognition of its sporting success, the Austrian Ski Association awarded him the title of Ski Judge. Jarzyna was also a member of the Judge's College of Carpathians Society of Skiers.

After the outbreak of World War I, he withdrew from sports life. He spent most of his life in Krakow and also in Zakopane. Bibliography
