Hippostenes from Sparta (Greek: Ἱπποσθένης) - ancient Greek athlete, Olympian.
For the first time he won in Olympia in wrestling of boys in 632 BC, in which the competition was introduced to the Olympic program for the first time. Later, as an adult male, he repeated the triumph in this discipline five times in a row, from 624 to 608 BC. According to the information provided by Pausanius (Journey through Hellada III, 15,7), he had his own temple in Sparta, in which, by the will of the oracle, he was worshiped by Poseidon.
