Gunnar Stålsett
Gunnar Johan Stålsett (born February 10, 1935 in Nordkapp) is a Norwegian Protestant, theologian and politician, president of the Center Party, Oslo Bishop of the Church of Norway, longtime member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Curriculum vitae He was born as one of the eight children of Johann Emil Stålsett and Alma Elisabeth Joki. At the age of seven, the family moved to Gildeskål. In 1953 he passed the maturity exam, and then undertook theological studies at the University of Oslo. He also studied in the United States at the Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary. He graduated in 1961 at the private Det Teologiske Menighetsfakultet.
He served for several years in politics as a Party Center activist. He was secretary of state in the department of church affairs and education in the government of Lars Korvald (1972-1973), deputy deputy in Storting (1977-1981) and president of the center.
In addition to the practice of the clergy, he was involved in academic work teaching theology at the University of Oslo. He also served as Secretary General of the World Lutheran Federation (1985-1994). In 1998, he became a bishop of Oslo. He held this office until 2005.
