Bahr Jusuf

Bahr Jusuf (Arabic: بحر يوسف, Baḩr Yūsuf) - a channel in Egypt, connecting the Nile to the Fajum oasis. Position

The channel is located in the northern part of Egypt, on the western side of the Nile, in the Libyan Desert, about 100 km south of Cairo. The area depleted by the canal through one of the most fertile regions in Egypt. History

About 70,000 years ago, due to the flooding of the tectonic waters of the Nile, near Lake Fayum, Lake Karun was created. The tank was powered by the small left bank of the Nile. The design of the canal was based on a natural watercourse during the reign of the pharaoh Sesostris II. He had planned to develop the area of present Fayum. During the Old Kingdom, it was only a marshland. The lake was then heavily fortified with earthen dams, dams were built, and the river was flooded. Sesostris II continued with Amenemhat III, who ordered the irrigation canal system around the Fayum oasis.
