Brotaufstrich - a common name for marmalade in the Polish lands, produced primarily for the inhabitants of areas occupied by the Nazis.

It was a kind of bread crumb, which was just a name associated with marmalade. They were mainly made from turnips, carrots or peaches and beets. It was possible to add saccharin. The product was almost black, had a bad odor and had a slightly sour taste. He was often fermented and his intake led to stomach problems. It was sometimes eaten when mixed with apples or other fruits, to reduce discomfort.

In German Brotaufstrich means in principle any bread spread.
