Polenmarkt - a Polish cultural festival, held annually in November in the German seaside town of Greifswald. the
PolenmARkT Festival aims to promote cultural exchange between neighboring states, Poland and Germany. PolenmARkT from the first edition in 1997 has developed, now Polish artists appear on the stage of the festival for 10 days. Apart from concerts, exhibitions, meetings of authors, theatrical performances and film shows, other forms of art are also represented. Together with the Nordischer Klang festival, "Polenmärk" is one of the most important cultural events in North-East Germany. The most important role in the organization is established in 1998 PolenmARkT Association, which is a registered association. Patronage of this event includes, among others. the Hanseatic city Greifswald, the University of Greifswald, the Sparkasse Vorpommern, the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg, the Literary Center of Pomerania Koeppenhaus, the Pommerschen Landesmuseum, the Hansa Fallada Museum. The first Polish Evening of Culture took place in 1997 in the basement of Slavic, so called. Tschaika. In 1998 the project expanded, transforming into a week of Polish culture. The first edition under the current name took place in 1999. The group of promoters was then assisted by the future rector of Hans-Robert Metelmann University.
In 2006, "polenMARkT" took part, among others. Andrzej Stasiuk, Fred Gebler, Michael Düring, Marcin Wołoszyn, Michał Majerski, Kamil Majchrzak, Andrzej Stach and Dietrich Schröder. In 2007 the festival celebrated its 10th anniversary. On this occasion the guests of the event were Olga Tokarczuk, Zygmunt Januszewski, Tobias Weger, Michael Majerski, Bartosz Wielinski, Gerhard Gnauck and Jan M. Piskorski.
In 2008 the festival was held under the leadership of Christian Lübke. In the same year the festival hosted Stefan Chwin, Michał Majerski, Jan M. Piskorski, Paul Meyer, Krzysztof Zastawny, Aga Zaryan, Kinga and Karol Masternak.
The motto of the polenmARkT edition in 2009 was "Poland and its neighbors". In this way, the festival was to open up to Eastern and Western Europe, and to highlight Poland's role as a country with (historically) mobile borders. Sparkasse Vorpommern also awarded the award for Polish-German cooperation. At that time, the award "Pomerania Nostra" was presented to Władysław Filipowiak. The guests who participated in this edition were: . In 2009 the inaugural speech was delivered by the then Polish Ambassador to Germany Marek Prawda. It was also the first time outside of Greifswald, in Stralsund. For his contribution to the development of Polish-German cooperation, the financial prize awarded by the Sparkasse Pommern Savings Bank was Tomasz Gredes.
