Miron Gaj


Miron Mateusz Gaj (born 22 August 1927 in Koronowo, died July 2, 2015 in Chwałowice) is a Polish physicist, co-founder of the Polish optics school. Curriculum vitae

In 1951 he graduated from the Wroclaw University of Technology, 1951-1954 he worked at the Wroclaw branch of the State Institute of Mathematics in Warsaw, since 1954 he was an employee of the Wroclaw University of Technology in the Department of Physics and after its transformation at the Institute of Experimental Physics (since 1968) ) and the Institute of Physics (since 1974). In 1959 he received his doctorate in engineering, in 1963 he was habilitated doctor, in 1971 he was appointed associate professor, in 1980 he became a full professor. In the years 1967-1968 he headed the Department of Metrology, in the years 1968-1971 the Department of Theory of Optical Systems, in 1981-1983 he was Dean of the Department of Fundamental Techniques. In 1971 he was the initiator and later became editor-in-chief of Optica Applicata. Member of the American Optical Society, Optics Section of the Physics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

In 1967, he was awarded the Polish Physics Society, in 1974 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Gold Medal of the Wrocław University of Technology, the 30th anniversary of the Wrocław University of Technology and the Medal of Merit for the Palacky University in Olomouc.
