Edward Żeligowski


Edward Żeligowski (born in 1816 in Marijampole in Vilnius, died in 1864 in Geneva) - pseudonym Antoni Sowa, poet, translator (especially Russian literature), publicist. Author of dramatic fantasy "Jordan" and others. Member of the Academic Association of the Polonia Convention in Dorpat.

Curriculum vitae

Between 1833 and 1836 he studied at the University of Dorpat, where he was interned for his participation in a secret patriotic association. After his release in 1842 he settled in Vilnius where he made contacts with democratic youth. Prepared Part 2 "Jordan" pt. "Zorski", but the radicalism of the work prevented it from printing and caused the Żigigowski to be transported to Siberia in 1851. During the exile he made friends with Taras Shevchenko. After his release in 1858 he stopped in St. Petersburg. From January 1859 he was one of the editors of the magazine "Word", which closed down censorship after 14 issues.
