Ignac Cornova


Ignacio Cornova (25 July 1740 Prague - 25 July 1822 Prague) - Czech Jesuit, historian, poet, educator, member of the Masonic lodge.

He studied at the Clementinum High School from the school year 1756/1757, where he moved to Březnice, where he studied in the school year 1759/1760, later to Olomouc, where he studied philosophy, theology and linguistics in the years 1760-1764.

From 1762 he taught at the Jesuit Gymnasium in Brno, in the years 1771-1772 in Chomutov, and in the school year 1772-1773 in Klatovach. In 1784 he returned to Prague, where he taught at the grammar school, and also in 1795 taught general history at the Charles University. As a sympathizer of the French Revolution and of the Enlightenment, he was banned from lecturing. Since then he has focused on research and private lectures. In 1776 he was admitted to the Masonic lodge "U tří korunovaných sloupů" (Under three crowned pillars).

He was a founding member of the Royal Czech Scientific Society.

He created mainly historical works and dealt with translations from Latin and French. He wrote the first monograph of Bohuslav Hasištejnski from Lobkowicz. He also wrote textbooks for high school. Bibliography
