Heinrich Gottong
Heinrich Gottong - German racial anthropologist, doctor at the Institute of German Studies in the East.
During World War II he directed, among other things, the nearly three-year racial studies of the inhabitants of the village of Markowa and its surroundings, in the area of the then General Governorate, to demonstrate that they are descendants of German settlers from Saxony. The results of his work were published in Markow's paper - ein polnisches Dorf? in the published edition of the Jagiellonian University (in fact the Institute of German Works in the East) in 1942, the book Das Generalgouvenement. The research materials collected by Dr. Gottong were initially deposited in Cracow, and then evacuated by the archives of the Institute of East German Labor, brought to the territory of the Reich. When the war was over, the documents were taken by the Allies to the United States. Racial research conducted in the General Government, including Dr. Gottong's work, was devoted to the documentary film "The Archives of Life" of 2009, dir. Justyna Łuczaj-Salej. Dr Gottong also conducted anthropological and sociological research during the war at the junctions of the Construction Service in Krakow and the Krakau-Land district.
