Sydney Thompson Dobell


Sydney Thompson Dobell (born April 5, 1824, died on August 22, 1874) - English poet of the Victorian era, representative of the so-called Spasmodic school.

He was the author of the dramatic poem The Roman (1850), devoted to the current issue of the liberation of Italy. In turn, the extensive poem Balder (1853) tells the internal dilemmas of the poet who killed his wife after she lost her senses. This last work was parodied by William Edmondstoune Aytouna.

Dobell devoted one of the poems (sonnet Poland, Italy. Hungary) to the countries aspiring to independence: Poland, Italy and Hungary.
