Portrait of a lady (painting by El Greco)

Portrait of a lady - miniature, oil on paper attributed to a Spanish painter of Greek descent Dominikos Theotokopulos, known as El Greco.

The painting was in the collection of Romulo Bosch in Barcelona and then in the collection of Julio Muñoz. After his death in 1991, part of his collection was donated to the city of Barcelona. Lots of pictures are not known. According to José Gudiola miniatura, El Grec used to paint a portrait of a lady in furry ether. The woman of the miniature is undoubtedly the same person in the Glasgow image, but with a different head covering. Harold Wethey in his monograph El Greco and his school undermines the attributes of El Greca and the Spanish historian Camón Aznar

According to other historians, the miniature of the lady was performed by the Italian painter Sofonisba Anguissola (Dama con toca) in 1591. Comments Bibliography
