Castle Guard in Prague


Castle Guard (Hradní stráž) is a special modern military unit belonging to the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic. He is subject to the head of the Military Office at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic, whom he appoints and dismisses. The commander of the Castle Guard is Col. Radim Studený. ​​

Guards is a military unit of the brigade type. It consists of 81 officers, 75 sergeants, 377 non-commissioned officers, 77 serials and 43 civil servants. In total, the formation is 653 persons. History

Castle Guard was created during the First Republic for the presidency of Tomasz Masaryk. During the Communist regime, she was subject to the Ministry of the Interior. After the fall of this system, Václav Havel restored her former form.

In 1990 the Guards uniform was designed by the well-known artist Theodor Pištěk.
