Simon Krofey
Edition of the Spiritual Dogs of 1586
Szymon Krofey (Krofej) - 16th century evangelical pastor from Bytów, the author of the oldest printed monuments of the Kashubian language.
His name came from a word or nickname of a cow. He came from the vicinity of Bytów, presumably from Dąbie, where a family with the same name was certified in the documents. He was the writer and head of the urban school, then he became a pastor in Bytów. In 1586 he published in Gdańsk a translation of the cantata. The sacred footsteps of Dr. Martin Luther and other devout husbands from German into Slavic language lined up. He was also the author of the Catechism Exercises, preserved only in the 1758 edition. Krofey's language was based on contemporary Polish, intertwined with numerous lexical, phonetic and morphological kashubs.
