Sacramentum (Latin: 'sanctification, sworn, commitment') - institution of a process plant in Roman law.
In the legislative proceedings, each litis of the litas contestatio deposited in the temple a certain amount of money (originally a sacrificial animal). The losing party lost the title of the punishment poena sacramenti (initially for the temple, later the aerarium), the winning player recovered. Over time these requirements were relaxed by the obligation to pay the penalty only after the case was lost, for this purpose the parties had to present the promoters (praedes sacramenti).
The height of the sacramentum was, according to Table 2 of Law XII, based on the value of the subject matter of the dispute: 50 aces for the item below 1000 aces and 500 aces for the more valuable one.
