Master of the Altar of Landau

Master of the Altar Landau - German anonymous painter active in the years 1450-1484 in Nuremberg.

He received his nickname from the wings of the altar of the parish church. St. Catherine of Nürnberg founded by the Landau family. In the central part of the altar there is a sculpture of Christ on the Cross and beneath it are six figures of saints. The wings show the Christmas scenes (on the left) and the Resurrection (on the right). On the outside of the wings there are scenes from St. Catherine and the Crucifixion of Christ. In the picture depicting the Resurrection there is a miniature portrait of one of the donors Elisabeth Landau. It was depicted in the nun's habit of referring to the St. Catherine's Monastery in Nuremberg, where she entered after her husband's death in 1468 and where she died in 1475. The portrait of donor Marx Landauer is in the scene of the birth of Christ. Assigned work Bibliography
