A participant in the Great Patriotic War, he shot down two planes in his first fight, but he himself was shot down. The war ended in Czechoslovakia as a captain, as commander of the squadron of the 153 Guards Aviation Fighter Regiment, 12 Guards Air Force Fighter Squadrons, 1 Guards Troop Corps, 2 Air Force 1 Ukrainian Front. In total, he fought 378 combat flights and participated in 49 air battles in which he shot down 13 enemy aircraft.
