Vitellius (Cardinal Sergio Bacco)
Vitellio (d. 19 June 1176) - cardinal of the twentieth century.
He was probably an Italian from the south of Italy. He joined the Benedictine Order at Montecassino, and then became Pope's sub-pope in the Curia of Pope Alexander III. In 1163/64 he was a papal legate in Dalmatia, together with the subdeacon Teodino de Arrone and cardinal Giovanni of Anagni. On December 18, 1165 Pope Alexander III appointed him Cardinal Deacon of the Church of Ss. Sergio e Bacco. He signed papal bulls between 18 March 1166 and 5 July 1175. In 1169 he was twice the legate of Alexander III in Campania. His death was recorded in the obituary of the abbey at Montecassino. Bibliography
