Modus
Modus - a philosophical notion of many meanings.
In medieval philosophy, the word modus was defined as a way of being specific. In philosophy of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries it was a variable feature of the object or (as in the monistic philosophy of Spinoza) transient states of one, eternal and infinite universal substance.

In modus music, it means the type of musical scale in the Middle Ages (eg, modus iris, doric modus) - see. modal scales.
In Roman law, such a command was one of accidentalia negotii.
