Ewa's son from the house of Korthals and Aleksandra Wisniewski. He studied medicine at the Medical Academy in Gdańsk. After graduating in 1955, he specialized in neuropathology. He was awarded the title of doctor of medicine in 1960, then he went on scientific internships at the University of Toronto with Jerzy Olszewski and at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda with Igor Klatzo. From 1966, permanently in the United States, he initially worked at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, from 1976 he headed the New York State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities in New York. He was the author and co-author of over 600 scientific papers.
For his scientific achievements, he received the Alfred Jurzykowski Foundation Award and the Officer Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
His brother was Leszek Wiśniewski (1935-2013). Married to Krystyna Wiśniewska, their son Thomas is also a neuropathologist. Second son Alexander died in 1989.
