uperi

Uperi (ruler of the land of Dilmun (now identified with Bahrain), contemporary of Assyrian king Sargon II (721-705 p.n.), whose inscriptions are listed.

In one of his inscriptions from Dur-Sharif, Sargon II mentions the gifts sent to him by Uperi: "Uperi, king of Dilmun, who lives like a fish in the distance of 30 bēru in the middle of the sea of rising sun, heard of your power and sent his gifts" In other inscriptions of Dur-Sharif, Sargon II praises the gifts that were sent to him by Uperi and one of his successors, named Ahundar / Hundar, after hearing about the power of the gods Ashur, Nabu and Marduk. According to scholars, Sargon II inscriptions indicate that Dilmun under Uperi rule remained independent and did not conquer Assyria. Uperi's name is probably Elamite origin. Bibliography
