Samuel Madden


Samuel Madden (born December 23, 1686 in Dublin, died December 31, 1765 at Manor Waterhouse, (county of Fermanagh) - Irish writer.

He studied at Trinity College in Dublin, where he obtained the baccalaureate in 1705, and the Doctor of Divinity in 1723.

He debuted in 1729 with Themistocles, the Lover of His Country, which was staged in London. In 1731 he wrote A Proposal for the General Encouragement of Learning in Trinity College, and in 1733 published anonymously in London Memoirs of the Twentieth Century. In 1738, he wrote Reflections and Resolutions for the Gentlemen of Ireland.

He was one of the founders of the Royal Dublin Society. Memoirs of the Twentieth Century

Memoirs of the Twentieth Century - which is a satire, is probably the first book that takes place in a defined future. In the book's content, the angel delivers to the English ambassador letters describing the world of 1997.

Almost the entire circulation of 1000 copies was bought and destroyed by Maggene after a few days.
