In 1920 he joined the Red Army, took part in the civil war in Russia, in 1926 became a member of the WKP (b), and in 1927 graduated from the United States Military Academy. WCIK BSRR. In 1961 he was awarded the rank of General of the Army. Since 1961, deputy member of the Central Committee of the CPSU.
