Operation Agatha

Zionist leaders after the operation "Agatha" held in Latrun, from left: Dawid Remez, Moshe Szaret, Icchak Grünbaum, Dow Josef, Szenkarski, David Hakohen, Iser Harel (also called Black Saturday) - a series of arrests carried out by the British Mandate of Palestine on Saturday 29 June 1946.
The British arrested 2700 Jews in response to a series of attacks against mandatory forces by Hagany, Irgun and Lechi militants. Foundations at the Jewish Agency's headquarters for Jewish intelligence services in the Arab states were transported to the crime scene at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. Numerous members of the Agency's management were arrested. The assassination of King David in Jerusalem on July 22, 1946, is considered in the literature as a retaliation for the British "Agatha" operation. At the end of the operation, representatives of the mandatory authorities were released, while High Commissioner of Palestine Alan Cunningham sentenced Irgun members to life imprisonment.
