Alexander Gabras
Alexander Gabras (15th century) - the last Byzantine prince of the Teodoro state in the Crimea of 1474-1475 from the Gabras. Curriculum vitae
He was the son of Alexei II Gabras (1434-1444). He came to power in 1474 with his uncle Izaak Gabras (1471-1474), due to his pro-Ottoman orientation in foreign policy. He received help from the Hospodar of Moldova Stefan III the Great. At the end of May 1475, the army and Turkish army, headed by Gedik Ahmed Pasha, arrived in Crimea. The Turks won the Genoa Kaffa colony and other Italian estates in the Crimea. Then Mangup, the capital of Teodoro, was besieged for half a year. It was not until December 1475 that the besieged troops managed to enter the city, slaughter their inhabitants, and liquidate the Teodoro Principality itself. Alexander and his family were captured and transported to Constantinople. There the prince was cut off. His son was forced to convert to Islam, and his wife and daughters were devoted to the Sultan harem. Bibliography
