Norman Greenbaum
Norman Joel Greenbaum (born November 20, 1942) is an American singer. "Spirit in the Sky," written by him in 1969, brought him fame.
Greenbaum was born in Malden, Massachusetts. He grew up in an orthodox Jewish family and went to a Jewish school. As a child he became interested in blues and folk music. On March 28, 2015, he was hospitalized in a critical condition following an accident in the Santa Rosa area at 3:30 am. The car that was driving Greenbaum as a passenger collided with the motorcycle.
