Indus Plain

The Indus plain is a lowland located in southern Asia, between the Balochistan Upland and the Deccan Upland.

The Indus plain lies in the western part of the Hindustan Plain, in Pakistan and India, on the Arabian Sea. West-bound mountain ranges of the Iranian Highlands, north of the Himalayas, east of the Upland Decan. It is a tectonic basin filled with marine sediments and river basins (sand, mud, and clay) of the Indus and its tributaries (main: Satledź). Plain surface, cut through wide river valleys and dense network of irrigation canals, especially in the north-east. Tropical climate dry and extremely dry; dry savanna and sandy deserts: Thal (north), Thar (east).

Rare river network, main river Indus. Numerous floodplain areas with periodic rivers and lakes. The precipitation ranges between 50 mm in winter and 350 mm to 600 mm in summer. The temperature in the summer is about 20-30 ° C, and in the winter about 10-20 ° C.

In this lowland there are mainly fertile, inundated soils created from river sediments (rivers), constructed from layers corresponding to subsequent river outflows (river marshes around the Indus River itself).

The vegetation period lasts from three to five months, which is conducive to agriculture. There are many crops, among which wheat is dominant, but we can also find small crops of rice, cotton, sugar cane, date palm, fruits and vegetables. Cattle and camels are mainly raised, but also pigs, goats and sheep. General climatic and soil conditions are considered to be weak. The Indus River sometimes causes catastrophic floods.

The Indus plain is primarily agricultural. It is not an area of great crops, but it is certainly sufficient for the needs of the peoples living in the nearby territories. Thanks to the flat terrain, which allows the use of agricultural machinery, water proximity, soil fertility, the Indu Plateau is considered to be the most prosperous area of Pakistan.
