Yerre


Yerre is a river in northern France, the right tributary of the Loire. It is 47.8 km long and the river basin covers an area of ​​297 km².

The river runs its course near the town of Chapelle-Guillaume at an altitude of 225 m. It then flows east and south-east, reaching Loire at 97 m n.p.m. near Saint-Hilaire-sur-Yerre. It flows through the villages: La Bazoche-Gouët, Chapelle-Royale, Arrou, Courtalain, Saint-Hilaire-sur-Yerre.

In 1031 the river was recorded under the name Era, in 1045 - Edera, in 1140 - Erra, in 1384 - Hiere. The name is derived from the old French word yerre meaning ivy.
