Visit Hill

Ziyaret Tepe is an archaeological site in the upper part of the Tigris, north of Kasziari (Tur Abdin), about 60 km east of Diyarbakır in Turkey. Identified with the ancient city of Tushan.

The site is located on the southern shore of the Tigre, with an area of approximately 32 hectares. It consists of a teller with layers of settlements dating from the early Bronze Age to the Islamic period, and from the lower town, inhabited only during the Bronze Age (New Jersey). Excavations are led by a team of archaeologists from the University of Akron led by T. Matney. In the early Bronze Age layers (focused on excavation work in 2004), the graves for grain storage and foundations of the mud brick wall, considered a fragment of the fortification surrounding the citadel, were discovered. The lower town contained a number of "administrative" buildings with large courtyards lined with small stone mosaics. One of the buildings, most likely part of the temple complex dedicated to the goddess Ishtar of Nineveh, has found large food storage vessels and 27 vineyards with documents on the reception, storage and redistribution of grain. Thanks to the names of the officials of the limo (eponyms), the plates were printed on 613 and 611 p.n.e. The lower town was surrounded by a wall, probably erected at the beginning of the Iron Age.
