Thomas Chippendale (born in June 1718, died in November 1779) - British furniture designer. Curriculum vitae
He came from a family that trades in wood. He probably learned to make furniture from his father, John Chippendale (1690-1768). Initially, he worked as an itinerant manufacturer of cabins. In 1754 he published the first ever book on furniture design for The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director. This publication became a model for other producers of cabins and her French translation was owned by Katarzyna II and Ludwik XVI. Furniture modeled on the works of Chippendale were produced in Lisbon, Copenhagen, Hamburg and Dublin. His work was continued by son Thomas junior (1749-1822). Style and main works
Chippendale combined various styles in his work: English with deep wood carving, French Rococo in the style of Louis XV, Chinese-style furniture and Gothic with sharp arches.
