Arauco Domado - the epic of the Spanish (Chilean) poet Pedra de Oña, first published in 1596. This author, although he was a Spanish subject, is considered to be the first strictly Chilean poet because he was born on the territory of this country. The work refers to the Araucana of Alons de Ercillo and Zúñiga. He talks about the acts of the Viceroy of Peru, the Marquis de Canete, who performed his function in the years 1556-1560. Pedro de Oña did not finish his work, although he wrote about sixteen thousand verses. The work is written with an original eight-sided verse, rhymed abbaabcc, different from the classic octave (abababcc).
