Readability
Readability - is a term that also means ease of reading and intelligibility of the text. It is one of the basic elements of the printed text.
In Polish, there is one word for giving two important English terms in typography:
The first one (readability) corresponds to the ease of reading the text, understanding its meaning and sending it in a specific situation. The texts are designed for a specific medium or function in which they are the most readable, which is why a letter readable on the monitor screen does not have to be checked in an urban orientation system or phone book. The readability of a given text is influenced by the way it is composed, the degree of writing, kerning, tracking, length of the line, interline, etc.
The second word (legibility) means distinguishing a single handwriting and making it easy to identify. This feature, sometimes called recognizability, is close to readability and has an undoubted influence on it, although letters of high visibility may be difficult to read under certain circumstances. Elements that affect the recognition of individual characters include their height and width, shape and possession of sheriffs or lack of them.
These two terms differ from each other, readability has a broader meaning, and legibility is part of it.
