Pastry composition - imitation of the historical style of composition using modern typographic tools. Such an imitation should be based on the contemporary version of a given cut and be subject to historical design principles. When designing in this way, appropriate proportions of the column and margins should be maintained, and if necessary, use the ornamentation with a specific style. It is also allowed to duplicate the unique features of the original composition, as well as to partially preserve the original shape of the letters.

The composition of a pastiche differs from facsimiles in that it is not an exact reproduction of an earlier version of the book, but only a faithful representation of the style of a given epoch or trend in design.
