Ludwik Machalski

He was the son of Leopold and Ludwika née Bień. His mother was a sister tried in the so-called "The process of sixteen" by Adam Bień - a member of the authorities of the Polish Underground State. Ludwik Machalski spent his childhood in Staszów, but during the Second World War he learned in secret sets. He graduated from high school in 1947 in Kielce, then he studied at the Commercial Academy in Cracow and the Lodz University of Technology, which he did not graduate. In 1950 he was the creator of a group of about 40 people, an anti-communist organization operating in the Sandomierz poviat. His organization was focused on gathering weapons, as well as the money needed for conspiratorial activities, but also on June 30, 1950, he attacked the Milicja Obywatelska station in Klimontów. Machalski's organization was broken after several months of activity in August 1950, and the "Monk" himself was arrested on 17 August in Staszów. After being arrested, he was sentenced to death with the verdict of the Military District Court in Kielce and executed on 10 April 1951 in the prison in Kielce. His remains were discovered by the team of the Institute of National Remembrance in 2016 at the cemetery in Piaski in Kielce. The identification was confirmed - April 21, 2017 during the ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw. The grand funeral was scheduled for November 6 2017.
