Cyril Porter


Cyril Henry Atwell Porter (born January 12, 1890 in Bridstow, January 16, 1964 in Callow) is a British athlete (long distance runner), 1912 Olympic medalist.

He won the bronze medal on the 3000 meters team at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. This competition was played according to the following rules: each of the gates was attended by five representatives from each country. The first three players from each national team were ranked first, one point. The team with the smallest score wins. The British team entered the finals without a fight, because only five teams had signed up, and three preliminaries were played. In the final she took 3rd place and Porter was the ninth individual. His teammates were Joe Cottrill, George Hutson, Edward Owen and William Moore. Porter also competed in the 5000m race in which he finished the final, but finished the final race outside the top seven.

In 1912, he was ordained a priest. From 1922 to retirement he was parish priest at Ewyas Harold.
