Ángel Guimerá (born on May 6, 1849 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, died July 18, 1924 in Barcelona) - Spanish playwright and poet.
He was a co-founder and one of the editors of the "La Renaixença" magazine - a body of the Catalan national, cultural and literary revival. He was a member of the Young Catalonia group. He created a romantic tragedy with a poem, including Gala Placidia (1879) and Judith de Welp (1883), in which he referred to the folklore and history of Catalonia, later wrote mainly realistic dramas about social problems. His main work is Terra baixa (1896) from rural life, translated into many languages. He is also the author of a collection of poetry. He influenced contemporary Spanish theater.
