The collection is strictly autobiographical, created from memories of the author's childhood and youth, both before, during and after the Second World War. Pavel's experiences with the humor of the situation, colorful fantasy and grotesque deformation. Eight story-telling chapters make up the narrator, as well as his family, especially the coveted father, Leon Popper, who was an agent selling household appliances, mainly vacuum cleaners of the Swedish brand Electrolux. This kind of Jewish Don Quixote, depending on the tragic or humorous situation, funny, or great spirit. The tragic fates of the Pavl family are described and the harm they have suffered from the Nazis. The Bohemian character is a unique character of the novel, because the father of the author, many of his friends, and finally he himself was an avid angler. Long descriptions of struggles in fishing, poaching and Czech cuisine are the long and exhausting examples of the struggle. Particularly beautiful descriptions refer to the Berounka valley, the forests of Karlštejn and the Czech Republic. There are also Prague, Buštěhrad and Kročehlavy. The Lidic tragedy is mentioned.

The first Polish edition took place in 1976 (in the PIW series of Contemporary World Prose). Second in 1978 (PIW). In the same year it was recorded on cassette tapes for the blind. Teatr im. Jan Kochanowski in Opole staged a monodrama with the same title (by Jan Feusette). The third Polish edition saw the light in 1988 (Silesia). Karel Kachyňa made the Golden Eagle episodes on the theme of short stories in 1979, and in 1987, under the same name as Pavl's book. Bibliography
