Ptolemeusz Apion
Ptolemy Apion stgr. Πτολεμαῖος Ἀπίων Ptolemaios Apion (d. 96 p.n.) - the last Greek ruler of Cyrenaica, who, through his will, has transferred his kingdom to Rome. Apion was the illegitimate son of Ptolemy VIII (Fiskon) and the Egyptian Irene (according to Joseph Flavius, also called Ithaca). The bed was connected to the king by a deep feeling, which made it very strong for him (Against Apion II.48). In spite of his illegitimate origin after the death of his father (116 BC), Apion inherited Cyrenaica and took over without protest from his siblings. Not much is known about his government, except that in his will he transferred his power to Rome (he died in 96 BC).
The Senate initially did not accept the announcement of the city of Cyrenaica free. It became a Roman province only in 74 BC. Bibliography
