Kapitularz (architecture)

Chapter house, Blaubeuren monastery

Kapitularz - one of the monastic rooms, serving monks for meetings, also a meeting hall of the chapter of canons.

Most often it was located near the presbytery or in the cloister in the eastern wing of the monastery buildings. The chapter house was surrounded by wall-mounted wooden benches. Due to their varied spatial layout and rich architectural design, they stood out especially during the gothic period.

The controversial issue among scientists is the existence of capitulars at the castles of the Teutonic Order, whose function was performed by some researchers in the refectory. Bibliography
