Filip Smaldone
Filippo Smaldone (born July 27, 1848 in Naples, June 4, 1923 in Lecce) is an Italian Catholic priest, founder of the Congregation of the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart of the Catholic Church. Curriculum vitae Filippo Smaldone was from Naples but was admitted to the Rossano Calabro. On March 27, 1871 he was ordained a deacon, and on September 23, 1871 he was ordained a priest. As a priest he gained pedagogical experience and set up a special home for the deaf. On March 5, 1885, he left for Lecce, where he opened with three other sisters the Deaf Foundation. There he also founded the Salesian Sisters from the Sacred Hearts. He died on June 4, 1923 as a result of diabetic complications.
John Paul II was beatified on May 12, 1996, and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on October 15, 2006.
