Michael Karas (born 1952) is a German chemist, professor at the Institute of Physics and Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Frankfurt, known mainly for his research on ionizing matrices (MALDI) and mass spectrometry techniques. Michael Karas studied chemistry at the University of Bonn, where he graduated in 1982 with a Ph.D. in physical chemistry. Since 1983, member of Franz Hillenkamp's team at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. Recognized as a pioneer in mass spectrometry.
